Jesus in John # 57

Body:

28.01.07 AM SERMON Jesus in John # 57 - John 18:1-11

Read p228-229 of “Just Give me Jesus”

1. Jesus is Saviour

Paul writes to the Christians in
Rome these words; “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8)

Jesus in John Introduction : "Consider him"

Who is it that you admire ? Who is it that you look to ?

It may be a particular celebrity.

Every month it seems another star is thrust into our lives for us to admire and follow, copy their hairstyle, imitate their wardrobe or repeat their catchphrase.

We live in a celebrity age, where people are reasonably easily able to get their 15 minutes of fame.

And some make it past that 15 minutes to be like gods to their adoring fans, as long as they give their fans what they crave for.

10.09.06 AM SERMON - Jesus in John # 52 - John 14

This morning, I want to focus on just one verse in today’s passage.

A verse which over the past two thousand years, has been one of the most significant to the Christian faith and its exclusive assertion about the person and deity of Jesus Christ.

The verse is the very words of Jesus, recorded for us to hear.

Words that amount to such a claim, that if true, they must have a relevance for each of our lives here in this place.

Jesus in John # 52 - Jesus the Great Vine

John 15:1-17

In Hampton Court near London, there is a grapevine called the Great Vine [PP]

It was planted in 1768 by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown and is the oldest known vine in the world.

This grapevine has one root which is at least two feet thick, and some of the branches are 200 feet long.

Despite its age the vine produces 500-700lbs of grapes each year. [PP]
